Outreach
We conducted and participated in many outreach events in our community.
Washington County Fair
Our team put together a booth at the Washington County Fair this summer. It was an amazing opportunity that enabled us to meet many people who were interested in robotics. We set up an interactive booth displaying our robot, which caught the attention of fairgoers. Children were eager to know how our robot worked, and many tried their hand at driving the bot.
Summer Camp
We organized an exciting four-day summer camp that brought together kids of various ages to embark on a thrilling journey of teamwork, creativity, and innovation. Throughout this camp, young participants collaborated in teams and delved into the exciting world of robotics, using their imaginations to design incredible solutions. The camp not only offered an opportunity for children to have fun but also to learn important skills. On the final day of the camp, the kids presented their solutions to their peers and parents, showcasing the amazing work they had accomplished.
CATHEDRAL PARK
One thing we have noticed through drives around our city was that our beaches and riversides are polluted and filled with unnatural substances such as trash and concrete. Seeing this, our team brought it upon ourselves to help clean up. On a chilly but sunny Saturday morning, the team came together and picked up concrete from the riverside and moved them into trucks to be transported to another location. We did this for two hours and gained experience and satisfaction knowing that we helped our community, even if it was in a small way.
DUCKWORTH DOCK
On an early summer afternoon, High Voltage came together yet again to further our assistance to our community and take care of our common home, the earth. Our team met up at Duckworth Dock and picked up trash for roughly 2 hours. We walked around holding trash grabbers and trashcans and picked up items such as empty cans, plastic bags, bottles, and more. Teammate Anirudh said that "[he] felt very achieved to know that [he] was able to assist the community through SOLVE", a local environmental volunteering chapter.
BETHANY OKTOBERFEST
Our team recognizes that it is imperative to get the younger generation to be involved in STEM-related fields. In order to do this, our team set up a booth at our local Bethany Oktoberfest from 11 am - 5 pm. We brought flyers with information about FIRST and our team and ways that people could contact us. We talked to parents and children who expressed interest in our robot and allowed them to drive our prototype robot around. We found many children who were interested in starting a team have done so.
